Ustazah Badriyah was born in Singapore on Friday, 25 June 1948 (17 Syaaban 1367). She received her early education at Madrasah Al Bustan (which was established by Ust Sonhadji Muhammad) from 1955 to 1960, and then at Madrasah Al-Maarif from 1962 to 1966.

She was well-known as an activist who was involved in many associations and volunteered her time, money and energy to Pergas from the time when she was young. When she was voted to sit as a committee member in its AJK (Ahli Jawatankuasa) during the 80s and 90s, she showed great dedication in leading the women’s section. When AJK was changed to MTP (Majlis Tertinggi Pergas) in 2002, she continued to be elected. Being chosen for these positions is a testimony of her dedication to Pergas, a dedication that was clear from the fact that she rarely missed any meeting held by MTP.

Ustazah Badriyah was also a member of the Management Committee of Masjid Kassim and of various women’s groups. All these, beside running her own tuition centre (Darul Furqan), counseling the members of Jemayah Islamiah on correct teachings of Islam, attending a diploma course in counseling (at the age of 58), teaching, and of course attending to her family.

She once told this webmaster that one should continue to study and increase knowledge, regardless of one’s age. Such was her dedication to her social and religious works that, two days before she passed away, she attended four meetings, from morning to evening. It was this dedication and internal strength that gained her so much admiration and respect.

Ustazah Badriyah passed away quite suddenly in the ambulance that took her to Changi Hospital on Tuesday morning, 23 January 2007 (4 Muharram 1428). She left behind a husband and five children.
